Initial experiments: Through using the recto and verso of the support I created two contrasting versions of the same figure, through different painting techniques expressing the two sides of each identity and the fact that we don’t only have one unified identity. Acrylic paint and charcoal on Mdf: Front Back Front Back Front Back To explore the concept of the double identity further I used transparent surfaces to merge the two contrasting portraits. Here the images change in relation to where the light is, also enabling to see the different layers of the painting. Using portraiture was my final decision since the face is mostly associated to our identity and first appearances. Acrylic paint on glass: Final pieces: ‘Double portraits’.
